Timber Protection

The study of wood as a renewable material and organic material is what is known as wood science. In other words, the term wood science can also be known as wood technology. Wood is treated as a material in direct comparison with other products. The comparison made against other products will include the features of the material against those of wood, the value and the ease it can be worked on. The many Merits of timber and these technologies improve wood to be superior over other products. Wood can be applied in very many applications, and this gives it an upper hand over other materials. Wood is renewable, and this makes it more precious. All the parts of wood can be put into use, and this makes it a better fit than other materials which most of their byproducts are a waste.

Protection of wooden structure and products is a must if you want to keep the good looks in place. The biggest threat to wood being moisture and insects has to be kept away from the wood. The rotting and decay of the timber products are caused by the moisture and the insects. Alkaline copper Quaternary or the ACQ has turned out to be a very effective way wood preservation. This is a copper-based preservative that is applied to the wood for protection. There are a few disadvantages of this method as a mode of wood preservation. It is a highly corrosive chemical that affects most metals that are used together with the wooden products. The saturation level of any treatment will depend on where the wood is going to be used and the species of the wood. Timber being used around a water body will be dipped in a more saturated fluid than that being used above ground.

Many methods are being invented to protect the wood, and one of them is the copper metal method. This method, unlike the ACQ, is friendly to the metal fasteners and its gaining popularity very fast. An alternative name to be given to this method is the micronized copper wood preservative method. A high-pressure liquid that has the copper metal mixed in it is driven into the wood. In other copper-based preservation methods copper is dissolved in chemicals while in this method copper is driven into the wood as a metal. When this process is used to treat timber the timber properties are increased highly. The timber treated in this way is used in both outdoor and indoor frames that last very long.

Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. It has also shown to be an improvement in corrosion resistant properties to metal fasteners. When you use this method to treat wood, then you will not need to worry for at least ten years.
